Bobby AI Assistant
Bobby is the AI assistant built into Cert-IX. It answers questions in plain language, points you to the right documentation, and helps you find your way around the platform. Rather than one monolithic bot, Bobby appears in a few different places, and what it can do depends on where you are talking to it.
The most important thing to understand up front is that there are two Bobbys with different jobs: a read-only search assistant that lives in the documentation and on the public site, and an in-platform assistant inside your Cert-IX dashboard. They share the same friendly interface but have very different access and boundaries.
The two places you'll meet Bobby
Documentation & site search assistant
On the Cert-IX documentation site and the public website, Bobby powers natural-language search. Instead of guessing keywords, you can ask a full question and get a written answer with links back to the pages the answer came from.
This assistant is:
- Grounded in the documentation — answers are drawn from Cert-IX docs and product content, and cite the source pages so you can read the full context.
- Read-only — it explains features, concepts, and how-to steps. It does not have access to your account, your assets, or your live data.
- Anonymous — you can use it without signing in; documentation sessions are not tied to a Cert-IX login.
- Multilingual — you can ask questions in several languages and get answers back in kind.
Use it to learn how something works, find the right doc quickly, or get a concept explained before you dive into the product.
In-platform assistant
Inside the Cert-IX dashboard at app.cert-ix.com, Bobby appears as a helper in the bottom-right corner of every page. Because you are signed in, this assistant is aware of where you are in the product and can guide you through the interface — pointing you to the relevant feature, explaining a screen you are looking at, or walking you through a task step by step.
Where enabled for your role and plan, the in-platform assistant can also take guided, confirmed actions on your behalf. Rather than making silent changes, it proposes what it intends to do and waits for you to confirm before anything happens. These actions run under your own permissions (RBAC) and subscription — Bobby can never do something your account isn't allowed to do.
The docs/site assistant is read-only and never sees your account. The in-platform assistant is context-aware and can help you act, but only through confirmed steps and only within what your role and plan permit. how-to-use.md and capabilities.md describe the exact boundaries for each.
How Bobby answers
Bobby is powered by Claude, Anthropic's large language model. When you ask a question, Bobby retrieves the most relevant documentation and product context and uses it to compose a direct, written answer — a retrieval-augmented approach, so responses stay tied to real Cert-IX content rather than generic internet knowledge.
Key characteristics of Bobby's answers:

Bobby's responses are generated by an AI model and displayed with an AI notice. They're a fast way to orient yourself, but for anything security-critical you should confirm against the linked documentation or your own data in the platform.
What Bobby is good for
Bobby shines when you want a quick, grounded answer without hunting through menus or pages:
- Understanding a feature — "What does the Scan API do?" or "What are Scanner Agents?"
- Getting how-to guidance — "How do I create an API key?" or "How do I connect an agent to my internal network?"
- Explaining a concept — "What do the severity levels in Vulnerability Management mean?"
- Finding the right page — Bobby returns the documentation link so you can go deeper.
- Navigating the product — in the dashboard, ask Bobby to take you to a feature or explain the screen you're on.

Getting the best answers
- Be specific. "How do I authenticate to the Scan API?" beats "help with the API." Detail narrows the answer.
- Give context. Mention what you're trying to accomplish so Bobby can point you at the right flow.
- Ask follow-ups. Refine an answer conversationally instead of starting over.
- Verify what matters. Treat Bobby as a fast index into the documentation and product — for critical decisions, open the linked page or check your live data.
- Report gaps. If an answer is wrong or a page is missing, letting us know helps improve both Bobby and the docs.
Privacy and data handling
The documentation assistant uses anonymous sessions and is not linked to a Cert-IX account. Conversations are processed by our AI provider to generate answers, under the terms described in the Cert-IX privacy notice. Cert-IX runs on EU-hosted infrastructure with some sub-processors outside the EU under Standard Contractual Clauses; Bobby's AI processing is covered by those same terms. Bobby is designed to help you find and understand information — the read-only docs assistant does not read your account data, and the in-platform assistant only acts through the confirmed, permission-scoped steps described above.
